Foods, Herbs and Natural Remedies

Khalsa, Dharma Singh, Food as Medicine : How to use Diet, Vitamins, Juices, and Herbs for a Healthier, Happier and Longer Life, New York ; Atria Books, 2003

This is an extremely useful book, doing exactly what the title states. He describes 7 principles, including the importance of eating organic, detoxification, and which foods are particularly helpful for this, elimination of genetically-modified foods. He also gives pages and pages of recipes - although I don't personally agree with his recommendation to add Bragg's Liquid Aminos to so many of these!

Vogel, Marijke, The Earth on Which we Live : The Air that we Breathe and the Hidden Causes of Illness, London : Vogel and Vogel, 2001

This is a book on seeking health through naturopathic means, especially the use of green clay for cleansing and healing.

Dyer, Dr. David S., Cell Food : Vital Cellular Nutrition for the New Millenium : A compelling report on a dietary supplement that is offering new hope for nutrient-starved human beings, USA : Feedback Books Inc, 2000

This little book is a report on Cellfood, showing how helpful this product is to support healthy cellular activity.

Roeder, Giselle, Healing with Water : Kneipp Hydrotherapy at Home, Canada : Alive Books, 2000

How to use hot and cold water to stimulate more vital cellular activity.

Schecter, Steven R., Fighting Radiation and Chemical Pollutants with Foods, Herbs and Vitamins : Documented Natural Remedies that Boost Your Immunity and Detoxify, California : Vitality Inc., 1988

This includes an excellent explanation of radiation and chemicals (including heavy metals) and how they adversely affect normal functioning of human cell tissue. It provides a wealth of information on how foods, herbs and supplements help our bodies excete and effectively cope with these pollutants. The writer is a naturopath with a wealth of experience.

Meyerowitz, Steve, Wheatgrass : Nature's Finest Medicine : the Complete Guide to using Grasses to Revitalise your Health, USA : Sproutman's Publications, 1983

Wheatgrass juice provides the most concentrated source, weight for weight, of nutrients. The green plant fibre contains enormous amounts of chlorophyll, which helps the blood to renew itself. If you can heal the blood, everything else will follow. Anyone who has tried wheatgrass will know that it is not the easiest thing to take, having an intensely sweet bitterness. This book goes into the history of its use, its content, how to grow it, and everything else.

Fulder, Steve, The Ginseng Book : How to use Ginseng to Rejuvenate and Heal, New York : Avery Publishing Group, 1996

Ginseng is a plant that has the capacity to help the body set itself to rights. It is a potent herb. This book shows how to use it wisely.

Environmental Pollution

[Author?], Alternative Medicine Guide to Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia and Environmental Illness, Future Medicine Publishing

This book has been recommended to me but I have not yet seen it myself, so apologies for the incomplete reference info.

Hall, Alan, Water, Electricity and Health : protecting yourself from electrostress at home and work, Stroud, UK : Hawthorn Press, 1997

This book contains a clear explanation of the connection between electricity, magnetism, water, and health. It includes a description of water as a carrier of information, and microstructural patterns which transmit information. It also discusses how to create protective fields. Highly recommended.

Scott-Mumby, Dr. Keith, Virtual Medicine : A New Dimension in Energy Healing : Discover where Ancient Wisdom meets Breakthrough Technology, London : Thorsons, 1999

A fascinating history of the growth of understanding of invisible forces of radiation and electricity, with modern ways of harnessing them for our benefit, eg. Vegatest, Bioresonance, Electro-Acupuncture, and individuals whose work has made a special contribution to our understanding.

Levitt, B. Blake, Electromagnetic Fields : A Consumer's guide to the Issues and How to Protect Ourselves, USA : Harcourt Brace, 1995

Similar to Coghill's work, but by an American writer, and perhaps more readable. Includes advice for protecting ourselves.

Coghill, Roger W., Something in the Air : The Hazards of Electromagnetic technologies, the benefits of magneto therapy and electro medicine, and the impact on and use by the natural world of the subtle energies now permeating our planet, Great Britain, Coghill Research Labs, 1997

This is a very comprehensive book, written by perhaps the UK's most respected researcher into pollution caused by electromagnetism. It gives an accurate yet layperson-friendly description of radiation, and considers research demonstrating its insidious effects upon the human immune system. This includes considerations of radio, power lines, sick buildings, computer use, AIDS, radar, as well as health-giving uses of radiation.

McCarthy, Margaret, Lymphatic Therapy for Toxic Decongestion : Selected Case Studies for Therapists and Patients, Edinburgh : Churchill Livingstone, 2003

This is a technical book written for body practitioners, especially reflexologists. It emphasises the importance of cleansing the lymphatic system, the prevalence of environmentally-related illness, and offers much practical help on stimulating the lymph to cleanse effectively.

Vibrational Medicine

Pettit, Sabina, Energy Medicine : Healing from the Kingdoms of Nature, Canada, Pacific Essences, 1993

This is about a range of flower/sea essences which are really quite profound in their capacity to generate healing. It correlates the chakras, and meridians, with each remedy.

Johnson, Steve, The Essence of Healing : A Guide to the Alaskan Essences, Canada : Alaskan Flower Essence Project, 1996

Very similar to Sabina Pettit's book, only covers the better-known range of Alaskan and Environmental essences.

Gurudas, Flower Essences and Vibrational Healing, California : Cassandra Press, 1983

This is one of the earliest works that came out after Dr Bach's well-known and pioneering work. It covers the history of flower remedies, how they work, how to make and store them, the relationship between flower, gem and homeopathic remedies, and herbs. Coverage of the remedies themselves is divided into those that primarily affect the physical body, and those that affect ethereal and psychological states. It is a classic but may not be easy to get hold of : try http://www.pegasusproducts.com

Healing with Exercise, Thought and Other

Macrae, Janet, Therapeutic Touch : A Practical Guide, New York : Alfred A. Knopf, 1998

This little book introduces core healing. It is a classic introduction which can be useful to people who know nothing about healing, as well as those with many years experience.

Springett, Ulli, Symbol Therapy : Access Your Higher Consciousness to solve your Physical and Emotional Problems, London : Piatkus, 2001

Self-healing through generating images.

Hirschi, Gertrud, Mudras : Yoga in Your Hands, USA : Weiser, 2000

Each finger tip contains the end of a meridian, as well as many nerve-endings. Linking the fingertips in certain ways can re-balance the meridians. I use these mudras on an ongoing basis and find them very powerful. They are particularly useful for anyone who is too ill to exercise the whole body. Used at the same time as meditation, or
Heal by Breath they are even more powerful.

Saraswati, Swami Satyananda, Asana, Pranayama, Mudra, Bandha, India : Yoga Publications Trust, 1996

A textbook on Yoga from the original lineage of India. Yoga in the western world does not necessarily fulfill its profound potential. In fact, Yoga is a comprehensive system for healing the body-mind-soul complex, and re-integrating this into the matrix of the universal source. This book is straightforward, direct, free of gloss, yet as sound as you can get!
